Cristiano Ronaldo united Europe in open-mouthed admiration after his stunning hat-trick sent Juventus into the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Atletico Madrid.

The front pages of the sports newspapers in Italy, Spain, France and Portugal all featured Ronaldo in a variety of celebratory poses as he mastermined a breath-taking comeback from a 2-0 first-leg deficit.

It was the Madrid sports dailies that were most gushing in their praise of the Portuguese star in what amounted to a lament that he was no longer in the colours of Real Madrid.

'Cristiano imposes his rule' ran the headline on the front of Marca as Ronaldo, a five-time Champions League winner, once again delivered the goods on the biggest stage.

'Juventus needed three, and he scored a hat-trick,' they continued before describing Atletico's performance as a 'shipwreck' as their dreams of competing the final inside their own stadium died.

AS were similarly reverential, with the headline 'Cristiano: King of the Champions League'. They point out that record scorer Ronaldo moved to an astonishing 124 goals in the competition.

Even the Catalan sports papers, while focusing on Barcelona's return leg against Lyon on Wednesday night, had to devote cover space to Ronaldo's exploits.

'Cristiano tears up Atletico dream,' said Mundo Deportivo while describing Barca's match as 'Like a final' presumably with reigning champions Real already dethroned.

There was plenty more fawning in Italy, where Juventus are only starting to fully appreciate the powers of the Portuguese star at close quarters.

Gazzetta dello Sport went with the headline 'Wrath of the Gods' as they hailed Ronaldo's 'crazy feat' in scoring a 'legendary' treble at the Allianz Stadium.

Corriere dello Sport pictured Ronaldo's mimicking of Atletico manager Diego Simeone's 'cajones' celebration from the first leg and go with the headline 'Monstrous'.

They also laud manager Massimiliano Allegri, who 'didn't get a single move wrong' as his Juve side blew Atletico away from first whistle to last.

Tuttosport went a little further, describing Juventus as 'martians' while promoting the souvenir poster they plan to give away with Thursday's paper.

In France, L'Equipe described Ronaldo as 'phenomenal', while in his home country of Portugal, he was pictured on the front of Record, A Bola and O Jogo.

'CR7 forever' said Record, while O Jogo suggested Ronaldo was in a Champions League of his own and A Bola called him a 'legend'.
