Ronaldo's mother vows to convince Juve talisman to seal return to Lisbon

Cristiano Ronaldo's mother, Dolores Aveiro, has revealed she will attempt to convince the Juventus superstar to seal a return to Sporting Lisbon for next season.

The future of Ronaldo, 36, is mired in uncertainty with Juventus having failed to defend their Serie A crown as well as crashing out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage earlier this campaign.

Now, the frantic speculation over a potential move away from Turin this summer has been further fuelled by the comments from within his own close family - with his mother vowing to speak to her son about the switch.

Sporting sealed their first Primeria Liga title since 2002 on Wednesday and supporters took to the streets to celebrate.

It was during these wild scenes that Dolores spoke from her balcony and underlined his commitment to persuading Ronaldo to head back to his homeland.

'I'll talk to him [Cristiano] to bring him back,' she said, according to Record.

'Next year he will play in Alvalade [Sporting's stadium].'

The reunion would be a fairy-tale way for Ronaldo to spending some of his final years in football - with the Portuguese talisman having begun his career there in 2002 before taking the step to Manchester United.

His humble beginnings quickly saw him flourish into one of the greatest ever players, but Juventus may be set to lose him over the coming weeks as a result of their disastrous form this term.

Should the Serie A giants drop into the Europa League, Ronaldo is expected to look to secure a transfer away. Sportsmail has reported that his desire to remain at the top table outweighs any love for the club.

Juventus will not simply allow him to leave for free, though, meaning club chiefs Andrea Agnelli and Fabio Paratici have their work cut out for them to find a suitor willing to pay around £25million.

It was revealed in midweek that the major financial gamble taken by Juventus in 2018 has cost them around €340m (£293m) and been labelled a failure. This is because the reason Ronaldo joined, to win in Europe, has not happened.

But despite this, vice-chairman of Juventus Pavel Nedved has emphasised that Ronaldo will see out the rest of his lucrative contract at the Allianz Stadium.

'For me, Ronaldo can't be touched,' Nedved told DAZN. 'He has a contract until June 30, 2022 and will stay. What happens after that remains to be seen.'

This would be a surprise, however, with Juventus on course to lose out on £78m, as Sportsmail has reported, if they fail to finish in the top four.

Their financial dilemma would see them forced to cut at least one top player.

Ronaldo has scored 35 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions this season as his fine form in front of goal continues.

The former Real Madrid man is said to feel blameless in Juventus' spectacular domestic failings because his tally of 28 goals in Italy will see him named top scorer.
