Wayne Rooney's preparations for the new MLS season got off to a disappointing start after the striker suffered an ankle injury.
Rooney suffered the problem in the early stages of DC United's first pre-season friendly against Bethlehem Steel.
As reported by The Sun, Rooney received treatment before going back onto the pitch but the former England star had to be substituted in the 18th minute.
An ice pack was applied to Rooney's leg prior to it being strapped with a bandage.
Thankfully for Rooney there is still a month to go until DC United get their campaign underway with a home game against Atlanta United.
Rooney made a major impact during his first MLS season as he scored 12 goals in 20 games, while he also provided six assists.
The 33-year-old caught the eye with his all-action displays and will hope that he will be able to enjoy another impressive campaign.
Last season DC United finished in fourth place in the Eastern Conference having taken 51 points from 34 games.
