Former Milan hero Andriy Shevchenko has revealed that he still keeps in touch with his former teammates at San Siro. “Milan are always in my heart”.

The former Ukraine international had two different spells at Milan as a player, from 1999-2006 and again on loan from Chelsea in 2008-09.

The former Capocannoniere and current Ukraine coach has previously been linked with the position as coach of the Rossoneri, when Marco Giampaolo’s future was uncertain.

Stefano Pioli later replaced the former Sampdoria coach, but the 43-year-old has admitted that Milan still have a place in his heart.

“I talk to Paolo Maldini, [Andrea] Pirlo, [Alessandro] Costacurta,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “And Bobo Vieri, he is so funny. I also follow him on Instagram.

“Milan are always in my heart, like my friends.”

Shevchenko retired in 2012, after finishing his career at Dinamo Kyiv, where it all started in 1994.

His most memorable time in football was with Milan, where he picked up the Champions League trophy in 2002-03, the Scudetto in 2003-04 and the Coppa Italia in 2002-03.

The forward became the top scorer in Serie A twice, in 1999-00 and 2003-04, as he scored 175 goals in his 322 games across all competitions for the Rossoneri.
