Team of the Week: Pedro spoils Inter's title tilt as Bernardeschi makes waves

  /  autty

The seasons around Europe are wrapping up, but there is still time for players to make headlines and put themselves in the shop window. Moreover, some leagues are just getting going! Who stood out around the world over the last rounds of action?

Below is our latest Team of the Week, drawn from the world's best leagues. As always, we have selected the side using Flashscore's in-house player rating system.

The latest Team of the WeekFlashscore

Goalkeeper

Walter (Mirassol) 8.4

The goalkeeper who stood out around the world over the weekend was 37-year-old Brazilian Walter. The veteran moved to Mirassol before the new season and made a name for himself against Internacional on Sunday.

In the 1-1 draw, Walter kept his side in the contest with an incredible 10 saves, keeping the hosts to just one goal despite their impressive Expected Goal count of 2.28.

Defence

Sorba Thomas (Nantes) 8.5

Nantes have had a largely forgettable season in Ligue 1, finishing down in 13th place. However, they ended their season on a high, at least, with a 3-0 win over relegated Montpellier.

Welsh wideman Sorba Thomas shone in a wing-back role for the Canaries with a game-high rating of 8.5, thanks to his four key passes and 10 crosses in a marauding performance.

Yerry Mina (Cagliari) 8.7

Cagliari confirmed their Serie A status on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Venezia. Key to the crucial victory was Colombian centre-back Yerry Mina, who scored the opening goal for the Sardinian club.

Defensively, Mina stood out as well, winning all eight of his ground rules, as well as making three clearances and three interceptions.

Nuno Mendes (PSG) 8.6

One of the stars of Paris Saint-Germain's terrific season, Nuno Mendes, put in another strong shift at left-back for the French champions as they came back to beat Auxerre 3-1.

The flying Portuguese assisted Marquinhos' go-ahead goal, swung in seven crosses and maintained a passing accuracy of 92 per cent.

Midfield

Pedro (Lazio) 9.1

We tend not to include substitutes in our Team of the Week, but it was very hard to leave out Pedro. The veteran Lazio winger came on after 53 minutes with his side trailing title-chasing Inter 1-0.

Inter desperately needed the win and would have leapfrogged Napoli into top spot had they hung on, but Pedro spoiled the party, scoring not one but two equalisers before it ended 2-2. For Lazio, that point could be key in their quest for Europe.

Brian Gutierrez (Chicago Fire) 9.8

Chicago Fire midfielder Brian Gutierrez shone in MLS in the latest round, scoring a brace and notching an assist as his side beat Charlotte FC 4-1 away in North Carolina.

The 21-year-old USA international has chipped in with five goals already this season in MLS, having made just nine appearances.

Neil El Aynaoui (Lens) 8.8

Lens wrapped up their season in Ligue 1 with an eye-catching 4-0 dismantling of high-flying Monaco but fell short of the European places, finishing down in eighth.

The star of the show on Saturday was Moroccan midfielder Neil El Aynaoui, who scored twice in the rout. He only scored eight in the league this season, but four of those have come in his last five appearances. In that form, he wouldn't have wanted the season to end!

Josh King (Toulouse) 9.1

Staying in Ligue 1, Toulouse also ended their campaign with a win, edging St. Etienne 3-2 and thus relegating Les Verts.

Earning a game-high rating of 9.1 was Norwegian winger Josh King, who contributed a goal and an assist to take his season goal contributions to nine (six goals, three assists).

Forwards

Federico Bernardeschi (Toronto FC) 9.6

EURO 2020 winner Federico Bernardeschi stunned fans when he moved to MLS a few seasons ago, but he's loving life at Toronto FC, it seems.

At the weekend, he stole the headlines as Toronto thrashed Canadian rivals CF Montreal 6-1. Bernardeschi was in the thick of the action, scoring twice and assisting two other goals. He's still got it and he's only 31, would you believe?!

Yanis Begraoui (Estoril) 9.4

Estoril ended their Liga Portugal season with a 4-0 thumping of Estrela. Incredibly, all four goals came in the first 23 minutes of the match, with striker Yanis Begraoui netting a hat-trick in a 17-minute period!

The French-born Moroccan youth international certainly turned heads with that performance and pushed his league tally to 11 in the process.

Altin Zeqiri (Rizespor) 10

What better way to round out our team than with a perfect 10 performance? Well, we got one this week in the Turkish Super Lig courtesy of Kosovan international Altin Zeqiri.

A half-time substitute, Zeqiri came on with his side Rizespor level with Goztepe at 2-2. The Finnish-born forward then proceeded to turn the match on its head, scoring twice and assisting once as the hosts won 6-3 in a thriller. With two rounds to go in Turkey, Zeqiri has time to make further waves this season.
