Many footballers continue their contribution as managers after retirement and some have gained great success in both playing and managerial careers. We have released the vote of Top 5 player-managers in football and the results are as follows:

1. John Cruyff - 20.8% of votes

Johan Cruyff revolutionised football in his life. As a player, he was the best in the world - winning three Ballon d'Ors and lighting up the major international tournaments of the 1970s, finishing as World Cup runner-up in 1974.

When he retired, he continued to trailblaze with the two clubs who had provided him with his stage as a player. And Ajax and Barcelona benefited to the tune of European honours, new-age tactics and player development which was before its time.

2. Pep Guardiola - 16.1% of votes

Just 12 years after retiring from his hugely decorated playing career, Pep Guardiola already has a stash of 22 different trophies as a manager. His footballing mantra has inspired Barcelona and Bayern Munich to become utterly dominant in their respective leagues and his success lasts at Manchester City now.

3. Carlo Ancelotti - 15.7% of votes

As a ball-playing midfielder in his prime, Carlo Ancelotti played for Italy 26 times - including appearances at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups.  He won the European Cup twice at AC Milan and added a further three Champions League winners' medals to his collection when he went into management.

Having claimed domestic titles in Italy, England, Germany, Spain and France - he is widely considered to be among the very best coaches working today.

4. Zinedine Zidane - 14.9% of votes

As a player, of course, Zidane was unrivalled - and his forehead defined two World Cup finals, for very different reasons. As a coach, Zizou has quickly established himself as a star of the coaching world - three Champions League in a row.

5. Vicente del Bosque - 7.1%

Vicente del Bosque delivered Spain their first World Cup and presided over a spell of a total, global dominance. He is to date the only football manager to have won the Champions League, the European Championship, and the World Cup, as well as the Intercontinental Cup.

As a midfielder in the Real Madrid side of the 1970s and 1980s, Del Bosque made in excess of 400 appearances and claimed nine trophies. He represented his country 18 times and played in the 1980 European Championship.
