Match Report

Dusan Vlahovic broke his drought and got Juventus back on track in the Derby della Mole against Torino, but it was again far from a vintage performance.

The Bianconeri were in total crisis after a dismal start to the season, including a midweek Champions League defeat to Maccabi Haifa, while Toro picked up one point from their last four games. Angel Di Maria, Mattia De Sciglio, Federico Chiesa, Paul Pogba and Kaio Jorge were injured, with Arkadiusz Milik not fit enough to start and Leonardo Bonucci dropped. The Granata missed Antonio Sanabria, with Pietro Pellegri and Samuele Ricci only ready for the bench, so Nikola Vlasic was pushed up to be the centre-forward.

Nemanja Radonjic and Aleksei Miranchuk tested Wojciech Szczesny in the opening minutes, while Juve waited until the 33rd minute to have a single shot on goal, making it a triple chance as Vanja Milinkovic-Savic rushed off his line to deny Dusan Vlahovic, then parried the rebound efforts from both Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot.

Juan Cuadrado also drilled just wide from the edge of the area, while Alex Sandro needed a last-ditch tackle to stop Ola Aina going clear on goal after the restart.

Milinkovic-Savic flew to fingertip a Locatelli volley into the ground as it bounced up towards the far top corner of the net.

Bremer limped off with a muscular problem and Toro had a double chance, Szczesny alert first on Nikola Vlasic’s scuffed effort, then the deflected Valentino Lazaro cross-shot at the near post.

Moise Kean missed a sitter when he prodded well wide of the near post from six yards on a Filip Kostic roll across from the left.

Miranchuk also should’ve done better when ballooning over from 14 yards, then Milinkovic-Savic flew to palm away a glancing Vlahovic header on Kostic’s cross.

However, from the resulting corner, Juventus took the lead as Danilo flicked on Cuadrado’s corner for Vlahovic at full stretch to tap in at the back post.
