Tottenham’s Centre-back chase

After failing to land either Jules Kounde from Sevilla or Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan, Tottenham have turned their attentions to Atalanta man Cristian Romero.

Romero had a stellar season for Atalanta last campaign, with his performances in the heart of their defence persuading the hierarchy to take up a permanent obligation in his loan deal from Juventus.

Such performances have put clubs on high alert for the 23 year old, with Spurs thought to be actively chasing a deal having now completed a move for team-mate Pierluigi Gollini.

Fabrizio Romano, trusted journalist for transfer market, reports that any deal would need a price tag of around 55 million euros (47 million pounds) to be completed.

First bid rejected

According to sources in Italy, Tottenham have already have an initial bid for their main target rejected by the Italian outfit. Gianluigi Longari, journalist at Tutto Mercarto, reports that a first bid of 35 million euros plus 10 million in add ons has already been rejected by Gasperini’s side.

This would tally with Romano’s suggestion that 55 million euros may be needed to convince Atalanta to sell.

However, Spurs may have a trick up their sleeve in the form of Colombian Davinson Sanchez. As per Longari, Atalanta are interested in taking the player to Italy, which could drastically reduce the outlay for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Davinson Sanchez has been linked with a move away from north London this summer, and therefore such a deal could well suit all parties very well.
