Puebla endured a disastrous Apertura 2025 regular season, finishing dead last in the overall standings with just 12 points. The club posted a record of 11 losses, three draws and three wins. After a string of poor results, head coach Hernán Cristante took over midway through the tournament - but he won’t be staying on.

In a statement on Wednesday, Puebla confirmed that the former Toluca manager will not continue with La Franja for the Clausura 2026.
When will Puebla’s new coach be announced?
“We would like to place on record our deep gratitude to Hernán and his coaching team for their professionalism and commitment during their time in charge of the Puebla team,” the club said. “We wish them the best of success in their future endeavors.”
Puebla added that Cristante’s replacement as head coach will be revealed “in the coming days”.
Meanwhile, rumors suggest Cristante has options to remain on the sidelines, though the names of interested clubs have yet to surface.
Puebla’s coefficient battle
It’s worth noting that Puebla also sits at the bottom of the Liga MX’s coefficient table, meaning the team is under pressure to deliver a strong performance in the Clausura 2026. They’ll need to outscore Mazatlán, Santos Laguna and Atlas to avoid paying a hefty fine.
