Former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has now signed for Cremonese and reports are already doubting his ability and motivation.
The England international said he's eager to prove his doubters wrong as he was presented at this new club, Serie A side Cremonese, on Wednesday as he prepares for life in Italy in what could be the biggest challenge of his career.
Vardy called time on a 13-year spell at the club where he scored 200 goals in 500 appearances and will now test himself away from England which has prompted many of the media to ask what his intentions are at 38 years old.
One Italian reporter quizzed: “In Italy we are a little bit sceptical about players like you approaching their 40th birthday.
"We tend to say, where’s their motivation, how fit are they?”
Vardy quickly hit back and joked that age is irrelevant to him as he continues to find the back of the net no matter how old he gets.
"You must be one of the doubters, and you're one that I'll have to prove wrong," Vardy snapped back. "Now, listen, for me, age is just a number. ... As long as my legs are still doing exactly what they used to and still feel as fresh as they do, then I will carry on.
"At the moment, there's no signs of them slowing down."
Vardy will be hoping for some minutes when Cremonese face Verona on Monday and will aim to help continue their perfect start to the season. At nearly 40 years old it is clear that age means nothing to the veteran striker who has a lot of years still left in the tank.
