In an interview with Le Parisien, Paul Pogba’s witch doctor (marabout) has denied claims that the Juventus midfielder asked him to throw a curse on his international teammate Kylian Mbappé, as had previously been insinuated by Mathias Pogba.
The marabout, known as Birame, explained that the claim was “pure invention”, and explains that the only time he discussed Mbappé with Pogba was during a phone call in the midst of the 2018 World Cup in which the former Manchester United man said that it was “a gift from God” to have the PSG forward with them. He added that they rarely discuss football matters.
Birame has clarified that he sees himself as a marabout in the Muslim sense of the word, looking to distance himself from witchcraft, and that with Pogba they discuss spiritual matters, the Quran, and prayers. He also spoke of Pogba’s various donations, for example for several years’ worth of rice to a village in Senegal.
