Atletico Madrid's new club record signing will be one of the youngest players in the first team squad next season, but Joao Felix has revealed what was behind the decision to join the Spanish side.
The 19-year-old will be presented at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Monday afternoon, but has already spoken about his desire to live up to expectations.
"Age influences some things, but I have the needed maturity to face up to this situation, I know what it's like to be in a top team," Felix stated.
"Everyone says I'm 19 but I don't seem it and I identify with that, I don't think it will be a problem."
The forward also showed his delight at having moved to Spain to join the club.
"I'm very happy, any player wants to play in the best teams in the world and Atletico is one of them," he told the club's media.
"[Atletico] was the option I liked the most and put the best conditions for me to come.
"I had this chance, it came up like this and now I'm here to give my best.
"It's a team I've followed closely in the Spanish league I've even seen them win the league and the Europa League, I've seen two finals which didn't end in victory.
"I've always followed the Spanish league, including Atleti."
Another key factor in his decision was the presence of coach Diego Simeone.
"Simeone is a coach who shows a lot of fight to his team, a lot of motivation, just like he did as a player," Felix added.
"It helps us a lot, showing us talent and helping us on the pitch.
"He's has a number of Portuguese players, great Portuguese players, and I want to do just as well if not better."
Explaining what his hopes are for the next season, Felix erred on the side of caution.
"I won't promise numbers, you can never promise that, but I promise to give my all to the team, to do my best, try to do what I can and then we'll see what happens," he said, looking to the future.
