Tottenham are expected to 'escalate their attempts' to beat Liverpool and Atletico Madrid to sign Moroccan World Cup hero Sofyan Amrabat for more than £50m this January.

The 26-year-old was a constant throughout the Atlas Lions inspirational World Cup campaign, featuring in every minute of their six matches, guiding his national side to become the first African team to make the last-four of a World Cup.

And his epic performances seem to have both caught the eye of Spurs boss Antonio Conte, while also driving up his price tag, with La Repubblica claiming that the London club could be prepared to pay upwards of £50m for the defensive midfielder.

But it's clear they will need to go deep into their coffers to buy him, with Fiorentina, his domestic club, being reluctant to let go of the midfielder, who they acquired back in 2020 for a fee of £17m.

Even then, Spurs would have to beat other suitors Atletico Madrid and Premier League rivals Liverpool to Amrabat's signature, with Jurgen Klopp having met with the Moroccan's representatives last week.

Spurs had been touted to make a swoop for the midfielder back in January, after it appeared he had struggled to settle in to life in the Serie A.

Yet, Amrabat has still amassed an impressive tally of 78 matches for the club, scoring one goal in that time, featuring in all but three of Fiorentina's competitive fixtures this season.

And he's earned the plaudits of many football pundits and influential figures over the last four weeks, including none other than France president Emmanuel Macron, who claimed he was 'the best midfielder in Qatar.'

Sadly though, Amrabat couldn't help his side continue their fairytale campaign, with Atlas Lions succumbing to a 2-0 semi-final defeat to France on Wednesday night, drawing a close on their inspiring tournament.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are also reportedly in the running to acquire Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, after his impressive performances for Argentina during the Qatar World Cup.
