Yves Bissouma made his feelings clear on his own personal performance during an interview following Tottenham's 2-2 draw away at Brentford on Sunday afternoon
Yves Bissouma's man of the match award was no triumph for the player despite excelling for Tottenham on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. Given a hard task away at Brentford, Ange Postecoglou started his Spurs tenure with a point following a 2-2 draw in west London.
Transforming Tottenham's playing style ever since stepping in through the door at the beginning of July, the Lilywhites wowed those inside the stadium and those watching on from home with their attacking brand of football. Taking the game to their opponents, Spurs had 70% of possession and registered an 89% pass accuracy from 711 passes.
As per Squawka, he had the most touches of any player (136), most passes (112), most duels won (11) and most take-ons completed (seven). He also hit 92% pass accuracy, made 15 entries into the final third, won possession seven times, made three tackles, two interceptions and two clearances.
"Everything is about the team, the way we work," he said when speaking in a post-match interview on SPURSPLAY. "Today I just want to say thank you to the coach and my teammates as we worked really hard for that. It's not just me, but everyone played really good.
"The first important thing for me is not to be man of the match or first, I just want my team to win. That's my mind. I don't just play for myself, I play for my team, for Tottenham Hotspur, for my teammates, for everyone.
"If I'm man of the match and we didn't win, the game for me is not a success. I prefer not to be man of the match but win the game and happy because we got three points and we can look forward to the next game.
"I can say I'm OK but not really happy because we didn't win, so we'll see next game. But thank you for this appreciation and I'm going to try to work really hard and me and my teammates to be stronger the next game."
'We never stop' was a phrase Postecoglou often used during his time at Celtic and it appears that his approach is very much rubbing off on Bissouma and the rest of the squad. Always demanding more from his players, Postecoglou doesn't want his teams to settle for one moment and instead continue to push for more as they look to reach even greater heights.
Not only impressing on the pitch during the 2-2 draw at Brentford, Bissouma's attitude and words outside of the field of play will also have been noted by many. Postecoglou is trying to build something very special at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Bissouma and the rest of the players fully focused on the team achieving their goals and then kicking on for even more.
