Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is reportedly closing in on a switch to LaLiga after his agent Joao Santos was spotted in Barcelona.

The 30-year-old is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and will be able to leave the club for free and negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of the Premier League in January.

The former Napoli star has plenty of interest from clubs that are looking to sign him, one of which are Barcelona who reportedly hold a firm interest in him, according to Tuttomercato.

The Champions League winner's agent has been spotted in the Catalan city, which could suggest that there has been contact between the club and player's camp ahead of a potential move next summer.

It is believed that manager Xavi views the Italian as a potential replacement for veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets, as the 34-year-old's contract wit Barcelona expires next summer.

The LaLiga side have been busy operatives in the free agent market in recent times as they try to overcome current financial constraints.

Barca signed former Premier League stars such as Andreas Christensen, Marcos Alonso and Hector Bellerin in the summer as well as midfielder Frank Kessie who left AC Milan after his contract expired at the San Siro.

In 2021, Barca also signed defender Eric Garcia after his contract expired at Manchester City.

Mateu Alemany, the club's director of football, has insisted that the LaLiga side will continue to target the free transfer market.

He said: 'More and more we have to focus on the market of free players.

'This year we have done it with Kessie, Christensen, Marcos Alonso and Bellerin, and there are many more to come.'

The comments came amid reports that former Barca star Lionel Messi could return to the club once his contract at Ligue 1 giants PSG expires next summer.

Another potential move that Barca could target is Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta.

The defender was on their list of targets in the summer, but a deal could not be agreed with the Blues, but with the Spanish defender's contract expiring next summer, a move could be revisited.
