OFFICIAL: Fernando Tapias, Real Madrid's first vice president, has died aged 84

Fernando Fernandez Tapias, Real Madrid’s first vice-president since 2013, has died at the age of 84.

Real Madrid official statement:

Real Madrid C.F., its Board of Directors and its president, Florentino Pérez, deeply regret the death of Fernando Fernández Tapias, first vice president of our club, and express their condolences to his wife, Nuria González, his children, and his family and friends.

Fernando Fernández-Tapias was a member of Real Madrid for 30 years, since October 13, 1993, and was part of all the Boards of Directors chaired by Florentino Pérez. He was vice president of the Board of Directors from July 17, 2000 to July 2, 2006. He was first vice president of the club from June 1, 2009 to the present.

He always showed his commitment to the Real Madrid Foundation, of which he was a patron from July 18, 2000 to July 2, 2006 and from November 4, 2009 to the present.

During the time in which Fernando Fernández Tapias has been a member of the Board of Directors of Real Madrid, our club has won 58 titles, including 6 European Football Cups and 3 European Basketball Cups.

Fernando Fernández Tapias has been an example of loyalty, commitment and dedication to Real Madrid. His death is a great loss for Real Madrid and for all of Madrid fans. Rest in peace.
