Osimhen fires Galatasaray to Super Lig glory as daughter announces his goal

Galatasaray clinched the Turkish Super Lig title on Sunday evening with a 3-0 victory over Kayserispor, highlighted by a record-breaking goal from Victor Osimhen.

Riding an eight-game winning streak and fresh off their Turkish Cup victory just four days earlier, the Lions hosted Kayserispor at Rams Park, needing a win to secure the title.

The Nigerian star opened the scoring in the 26th minute, heading in Gabriel Sara’s cross past goalkeeper Bilal Bayazıt.

With that strike, Osimhen netted his 36th goal of the 2024/25 season, moving him further ahead of Mario Jardel’s 24-year-old record for the most goals by a foreign player in a single campaign in Turkey.

One of the most heartwarming moments came when Super Eagles striker's two-year-old daughter, Hailey, announced her father's goal - prompting a rapturous ovation from the home crowd.

Barıs Alper Yılmaz doubled the Lions’ lead ten minutes later, before goalkeeper Fernando Muslera sealed the win with a rare goal from the penalty spot.

Okan Buruk's Galatasaray have now secured a record-extending 25th Turkish league title, with two matches still remaining in the season.

Barring any surprises, Osimhen - who has netted 25 league goals this season - is on track to claim the top scorer’s title, edging ahead of Poland international Krzysztof Piątek, who has 21 goals to his name.

Will Osimhen leave Galatasaray?

The future of the former African Player of the Year at the Istanbul-based club remains uncertain as his loan spell from Napoli comes to an end.

Osimhen joined the Turkish Super Lig side on loan in September 2024, after being dropped from the Serie A side’s first-team squad by Antonio Conte following a failed deadline-day move to Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli.

While Galatasaray is keen to keep hold of the Nigerian striker, several factors complicate the chances of him remaining in Istanbul.

Osimhen’s standout performances have drawn attention from top European giants such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Juventus.

Interest has also emerged from Saudi Arabian clubs. However, the striker has remained tight-lipped about his future, stating he will decide at the end of the season.

While he has spoken highly of his experience at Galatasaray and the support from fans, he has not ruled out a move elsewhere.
