Patrick Vieira set to be appointed Strasbourg head coach

Patrick Vieira is set to be appointed RC Strasbourg Alsace head coach after finding an agreement in principle with the Alsatians, according to reports from Foot Mercato, RMC Sport and L’Équipe.

The former New York City FC, OGC Nice and Crystal Palace FC manager is set to sign a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 club, which is now owned by BlueCo, the American consortium that also possesses Chelsea FC. This week, Strasbourg and now-former head coach Frédéric Antonetti mutually agreed to part ways.

The 47-year-old 1998 World Cup winner with France was a free agent since his dismissal as Crystal Palace manager, on St. Patrick’s Day. Foot Mercato understand that Vieira received guarantees from the board that Strasbourg would be gunning for a place in Ligue 1’s top half, and not fighting to keep their Ligue 1 status like last season. The former Arsenal midfielder will be tasked with spearheading the new BlueCo era at Strasbourg. Vieira’s first competitive game as Strasbourg boss will be at home against Lyon on Ligue 1’s opening day on 12th August.
