Arsenal signed Piero Hincapie on transfer deadline day to round off a big summer of spending that also saw Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke arrive at the Emirates stadium
The transfer window is complete, and safe to say it's been a significant one for Arsenal. Sporting director Andre Berta was in charge of the Gunners' summer activity for the first time and he kept busy for the duration.
Incoming signings were the priority from the off for Arsenal after Mikel Arteta's side finished second for a third successive season. The north London side got deals over the line for Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi to kick off the summer.
But that was just the start as Arteta was finally handed a striker as the Gunners splashed more than £60million on Viktor Gyokeres. The Sweden international was forced to push for his exit from Sporting CP but is already off the mark for his new team.
Arsenal have splashed out more than £350m after significant fees were also spent on Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke but have also landed more frugal deals. Christian Norgaard and Cristhian Mosquera were added for £25m combined as the Gunners looked to increase the depth across their squad.
That did not stop business being done at the death however. Piero Hincapie was weclomed on loan from Bayer Leverkusen and Arsenal have an option to secure the central defender permanently next summer.
Arteta said: "We are so pleased to welcome Piero Hincapie to the club. Piero has a real physical presence, with his versatility and tactical flexibility giving us strong added defensive options. He is a big character, with a very good combination of both youth and maturity."
There was even more work conducted to get players off the books however. The Gunners found a late permanent move for Albert Sambi Lokonga to Hamburger SV and saw Fabio Vieira move to the same club on loan.
