Arsenal will seek talks with Nuno Espirito Santo next week over their vacant manager’s job.
The Wolves boss is one of around 12 candidates the Gunners want to speak to, and the club are set to accelerate their interest in the Portuguese over the coming days. However, Arsenal will have to gain permission from Wolves before holding formal discussions with Nuno.
Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, who has Premier League experience with Wigan and Everton, has also been approached about replacing Unai Emery who was sacked last month.
Once the club have spoken to all candidates, including Mauricio Pochettino, Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira, work will begin on forming a three-man shortlist.
Meanwhile, Freddie Ljungberg has revealed that Arsenal have not allowed him to bring in any assistants during his time as interim boss.
While Manchester City — Arsenal’s opponents at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday — employ an army of staff to assist boss Pep Guardiola, Ljungberg only has Per Mertesacker, the 35-year-old former Arsenal defender who is juggling assisting the Swede with his job as head of the club’s academy.
