Julien Le Cardinal (26) spent last season on loan at Stade Brestois from RC Lens. That move is set to be made permanent imminently, L’Équipe understands.
The French centre-back joined Les Ty Zéfs on a season-long loan back in September and over the course of his spell at the Stade Francs Le-Blé, he made 14 Ligue 1 appearances. He has convinced sporting director Grégory Lorenzi and manager Eric Roy to make that move permanent.
According to L’Équipe, an agreement with Lens on a fee of around €1.7m has already been reached. The final details must be smoothed out before the move becomes official. Le Cardinal, who occupied a backup role behind Lilian Brassier and Brendan Chardonnet last season, can hold out hope for more minutes next season.
Brassier is set to imminently complete a move to Olympique de Marseille and Le Cardinal represents a natural, low-budget replacement for the Breton club, who will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.
