Luckhurst: Carrick don't consider recalling Rashford back at all, no summer plan

According to the latest news from journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Manchester United is still planning for a future without Marcus Rashford, and Carrick hasn't considered recalling Rashford at all.

Rashford is playing for Barcelona on loan this season, and Barça has a £26 million buyout option.

Manchester United has no intention of recalling Rashford in the winter window, even though new manager Michael Carrick worked with Rashford for three and a half years during his time as a first-team coach and interim manager.

Reliable sources say Carrick hasn't considered recalling Rashford at all, and since his contract only runs until the end of this season, he hasn't planned as far ahead as summer either.

While Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox finalize the next permanent manager, Rashford's situation remains unchanged.

Rashford hasn't played for Manchester United since December 2024, and under former manager Ruben Amorim, his No.10 jersey was also replaced by Matheus Cunha.

During pre-season training this summer, Amorim asked Rashford and other players to train at separate times from the first-team main squad, and later Rashford joined Barça at the end of July.

After Rashford left and Alejandro Garnacho was sold, Manchester United lacks a proper left winger and is likely to look for a forward in the transfer market this summer.

Another winger, Jadon Sancho, is currently on loan at Aston Villa; this is his third loan spell, and he will also be let go by Manchester United after his contract expires at the end of June.

The 28-year-old Rashford has a contract with Manchester United until 2028, and he is likely to be officially sold this summer.

The England international has started the last two games for Barça, but he was a substitute for five consecutive games in January. He has made 34 appearances for the La Liga champion team and scored 10 goals.

If long-time Barcelona president Joan Laporta loses the upcoming election, Rashford's future at Camp Nou will become more uncertain.

Laporta's opponent Victor Font wants to sack current sports director Deco, who is exactly the one who brought this disgruntled Manchester United player to Catalonia.
