Manchester United transfer news as Newcastle's pursuit of Anthony Elanga could hand United a much-needed transfer windfall
Manchester United's moves for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo has changed the landscape of the transfer window this summer with the duo set to cost over £120million.
United were forced to pay £62.5m to bring Cunha to Old Trafford due to his release clause at Wolves and Mbeumo is set to join the Brazilian once a deal with Brentford is finalised.
As a result, other clubs are valuing their assets higher than usual and Newcastle United have fallen victim of that. The Magpies have already attempted to sign Nottingham Forest and former United winger Anthony Elanga this summer, failing in their £45m bid earlier this week.
Newcastle are also struggling to complete deals for Joao Pedro and James Trafford as a result of Brighton and Burnley demanding high fees. However, there is plenty of time remaining in the transfer window and the triple raid could still be completed.
Should Elanga leave Forest for Tyneside, it would hand United a minor transfer windfall this summer. When the Sweden international left the club in 2023 for £15m, club chiefs are understood to have included a sell-on clause in his contract at the City Ground.
According to the Daily Express, United will earn 15 per cent of any profit that Forest make on top of the £15m fee for Elanga. If Newcastle successfully negotiate a £50m deal, that would represent a £35m profit for Forest and see United add £5.25m to their kitty.
Whilst it's not a hefty windfall, the influx of cash could bolster United's attempts to generate funds. Much has been made of the job on Jason Wilcox's hands to sell players to add further reinforcements .
Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have all been made available for transfer at Old Trafford. No European football means United's transfer budget is expected to be small once Mbeumo comes through the door.
