Marquinhos set to sign three-year contract renewal with PSG

L’Équipe report today that Marquinhos is closing in on a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, with talks finally set to be completed a year and a half after they were first opened.

The league leaders’ Brazilian captain has agreed to put pen to paper on a two-year extension along with an option for an additional campaign – his current deal was expiring at the end of next season – with only a few details left to iron out.

The length of time taken to complete the talks, which began during former Sporting Director Leonardo’s reign, were essentially due to an initial difference in salary demands, as well as a mutual feeling that there was no rush.

After nearly a decade at the club, the PSG captain is now set to carry on – with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said to be “dreaming” of having Marquinhos finish his career at PSG. The Brazilian had signalled that he was intent on staying in the French capital very early on in the talks. He has made 391 appearances in all competitions since his arrival from Roma in 2013, lifting the Ligue 1 title seven times along the way.
