MANCHESTER UNITED and Newcastle are set to be locked in ANOTHER transfer battle to land Nick Woltemade as their next striker.
Bayern Munich had been in pole position to sign Woltemade, 23, - who is valued at £40million.
But Luis Diaz’s £55million switch from Liverpool to Bayern has boosted both the Red Devils and Toon's chances of landing the German Under-21 star as the Bundesliga champions might pull out of the race.
United and Newcastle have both made a new No9 a key summer priority.
The Premier League giants have both also entered talks for £70m-rated RB Leipzig sensation Benjamin Sesko.
Ruben Amorim needs to boost United's firepower after their worst campaign in 30 years last season - with Sesko and Ollie Watkins both on their shortlist.
Meanwhile, Toon boss Eddie Howie is having to make plans for what life might look like without Alexander Isak, after the Swede indicated he wants to move on.
Liverpool remains favourites to sign Isak, who is valued at £150m by the Magpies.
And Stuttgart star Woltemade is one of Europe’s hottest prospects.
The up-and-coming forward has been in Bayern’s sights all summer but price has been an issue.
Woltemade was one of Sun Sport's five to watch before the Under-21 Euros - and was the tournament's top goalscorer with six.
He rose through the academy ranks at Werder Bremen and was a regular for them at various different youth levels.
Woltemade, who has earned one senior cap, then broke into their first-team as a teenager and scored two goals in 51 games.
He was loaned out to SV Elversberg to get some experience under his belt.
Bremen cashed in on him 12 months ago when Stuttgart came calling.
He has since been prolific and has fired 17 goals in 33 matches.
Speaking earlier this month Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth said: “Nick is back [at Stuttgart training], we’re in contact.
“His teammates welcomed him with a smile, and he arrived with a smile. I think he was happy to be back. He’s making a very good impression. He’s in good shape.”
Howe has endured a difficult transfer window so far - having already seen deals for forwards Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike hijacked.
