The Tottenham manager has made it clear that the club need to sign some players
Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear that he expects the club to try to sign new players in the January transfer window.
Spurs became the first club since the formation of the Premier League transfer window to not sign a single player in the summer months and they did not sell any either.
Despite that Pochettino's men have enjoyed their best start to a Premier League season after nine matches, but the Tottenham manager says that he still expects chairman Daniel Levy to try to bring new players to the club in January and that the club needs that to happen.
"I have to be honest, I don’t want to take advantage of that [record start to the season]. In football you always need to think you can improve and you need to try to improve your squad," he said.
"I have tried to explain before what happened in the summer, the circumstances, but if you say to me ‘we were so clever and are a genius’ because we didn’t sign [anyone] and now after nine games it is the best every start in the Premier League, I am not going to be the kind of person to say ‘yes, we are geniuses’.
"We can not sign for different circumstances but we wanted to sign, it happened that wasn’t possible, and look now. The circumstances arrive and now it is the best Premier League start for Tottenham, I think it maybe is a coincidence or we worked a lot or because we are clever, but to be honest always you try to sign."
He added: "Now it will come, January, and we are going to try to sign and then, if it is not possible, we are going to tell you it was not possible to sign but I think, not only us, all the clubs and managers want to sign players, must refresh the squad, it is necessary and if today happens that, we can say ‘okay well done.’
"If you ask me I am happy, I am happy with the result but I think you cannot play with the destiny and you need to do the things properly, I don't want to say that it is not doing things properly to not sign but, we need to try again in January or the summer to try and sign if we want to move on the team and the club."
