Rennes have reached a €15m agreement with AS Monaco to sign out-of-favour striker Breel Embolo (28), as per Foot Mercato.
The 28-year-old has entered the final months of his contract with Adi Hütter’s Les Monégasques. AS Monaco were not opposed to selling the Swiss international, who has not been included in a matchday squad yet this season. Embolo was seen as one of Rennes’ plan B should they fail to sign Conrad Harder from Sporting CP.
Rennes were in the market for a traditional centre-forward after parting ways with Arnaud Kalimuendo. The former France youth international, who logged 17 Ligue 1 goals last season, was poached by Nottingham Forest in exchange for a €35m transfer fee. Rennes previously signed Estéban Lepaul from Ligue 1 rivals Angers SCO in a €16m switch. Lepaul already showed his worth in scoring for his debut, but Rennes were expected to bolster Habib Beye’s attacking options before the end of the transfer window.
