The figures behind Brahim Diaz's transfer to Real Madrid

Manchester City and Real Madrid have begun negotiations over a deal for young Spanish striker Brahim Diaz.

Brahim is not getting minutes under Pep Guardiola and has rejected three offers to extend his deal at City beyond the end of the season.

"We want him to renew for four or five more years and will do what's necessary but it's in his hands. If he doesn't want to stay, he has to go," Guardiola's said.

Madrid have contacted the English side over the 19-year-old. They have offered 10 million euros to do a deal in January but City want double.

However, a deal is possible due to the fact he's out of contract next summer, so is free to negotiate with other clubs from January onwards.

City have offered a six-year deal with a 3.5 million euro annual salary but finance is not behind Brahim's desire to leave -- he wants to play and is struggling to see how that happens under Guardiola.

Brahim will have the last word but Santiago Solari could play a key role if he can persuade the player things will be different at Madrid.
